When you visit Japan, many people go to Tokyo then hop on the bullet train to visit Kyoto and Osaka and Nara. I do recommend visiting Kobe as well. It is only 30 minutes away from Osaka. Price Difference between US and Japan
Same product ... different prices. Most products are cheaper in Japan than the US but especially imported products can be twice as much expensive in Japan.

Japanese people depends on the government a lot. And government keep increasing the taxes to meet those demands. It is amazing how people accept those tax increases. But people are will controlled.
