トヨタに所属(しょぞく)するオリンピック選手(せんしゅ)が名古屋市(なごやし)の記者会見(きしゃかいけん)で金(きん)メダルを披露(ひろう)しました。その際(さい)、市長(しちょう)が金(きん)メダルを首(くび)にかけてもらったのですが、金(きん)かどうかを確(たし)かめるため、なんとメダルを噛(か)んだのです。映画(えいが)の真似(まね)ごとをしたようですが、これは大(だい)問題(もんだい)に発展(はってん)しました。

後日(ごじつ)市長(しちょう)はその選手(せんしゅ)が勤(つと)めるトヨタ自動車(じどうしゃ)に謝罪(しゃざい)に行(い)ったが門前払(もんぜんばら)いされ、謝罪(しゃざい)すらできなかったそうです。この一件(いっけん)で大量(たいりょう)の苦情(くじょう)メールが名古屋市(なごやし)に寄(よ)せられたことは言(い)うまでもありません。そして結局(けっきょく)、この金(きん)メダルは交換(こうかん)されることになり、市長(しちょう)は自分(じぶん)が払(はら)うと言(い)っているようです。

こんな馬鹿(ばか)げた事件(じけん)、海外(かいがい)では報道(ほうどう)されているのでしょうか。市長(しちょう)は最近(さいきん)当選(とうせん)したばかりで、次(つぎ)の選挙(せんきょ)まで任期(にんき)が続(つづ)くというのが残念(ざんねん)でなりません。

Mayor Bites Olympian's Gold Medal

An Olympic athlete belonging to Toyota showed off her gold medal at a press conference in Nagoya City. At the time, the mayor had the gold medal put around his neck and bit it to see if it was gold or not. He was mimicking an action seen in movies, and needless to say, this became a big problem.

The mayor later went to the Toyota Motor Corporation, where the athlete works, to apologize, but he was turned away and unable to. Needless to say, the city of Nagoya received a large number of email complaints because of this incident. In the end, the gold medal will be replaced and the mayor says he will pay for it.

This is such a ridiculous incident in Japan, but I wonder if it is being reported overseas. It is a pity that the mayor was recently elected and his term will continue until the next mayoral election.
