Oni (Demon)
Oni are famous in the anime "Demon Slayer”, "The Promised Neverland" and "Urusei Yatsura". There are also demons in the traditional story "Kintaro". Depending on the anime, demons are represented in various ways, from being bad to being cute.
So, what is a demon?
In China, according to the Buddhist concept, demons were thought to be the souls of dead people. When Buddhism was introduced to Japan, the idea came to be that demons were the ones who controlled hell. In Japan, there are also temples dedicated to demons.
There are many stories in Japan about demons as enemies to be vanquished. "Kintaro", which I mentioned earlier, are a good example. Oni (demon) means a person who dies and is reborn as evil. People who do bad things, even when they are alive, are said to be like demons.
